In 2022, SchoolsRule established the SchoolsRule Equity in Education Fund at the Marin Community Foundation to honor Mary Jane Burke's 50 years of service to the children of Marin including her 28 years as Marin County Superintendent of Schools.
Contributions to this legacy fund will support the continuation of the arts, literacy, technology and health programs in Marin public schools, specifically benefiting students with the greatest need and ensuring that Mary Jane's lifelong vision of equitable opportunities for ALL students lives on for future generations.

THE MARY JANE BURKE
Equity in Education Fund
at the
PURPOSE
To honor Mary Jane Burke’s 50 years of service to the children of Marin including 28 years as Marin County Superintendent. By establishing a legacy fund at the Marin Community Foundation, Mary Jane’s vision of equitable opportunities for ALL students lives on for future generations.
Distribution
Formula
Historically, SchoolsRule has distributed funds to Marin’s public school foundations using an equal per-student formula to support literacy, arts, technology, and health programs. In contrast, the SchoolsRule Equity in Education Fund is distributed using a needs-based, weighted approach, with awards provided in addition to each foundation’s annual per-pupil grant.
Structure
The SchoolsRule Equity in Education Fund in Honor of Mary Jane Burke is held as an Organization Fund at Marin Community Foundation. Long term, the fund will function as an endowment where a % of the fund will be distributed annually to support programs in perpetuity. Currently, donors to the fund can opt to designate their donations to be fully distributed this year.
